Vimpat is Easy to Take

Tips for Taking Vimpat

Vimpat can help you control your partial-onset seizures. Here are some important things you should know about adding Vimpat to your treatment.

  • Your doctor will tell you how much Vimpat to take and when to take it.
  • You may begin to notice the benefits of Vimpat after a few weeks. Keep taking it even if you don't see a change right away, because for some people it may take longer.
  • Your doctor may start you on a lower dose of Vimpat and increase your dose as your body gets used to the medicine. Do not change your dose unless your doctor tells you to.
  • Do not stop taking Vimpat suddenly and without talking to your doctor. Stopping a seizure medicine all at once can cause more seizures or a very serious condition where seizures will not stop.
  • Vimpat may be taken with or without food.
  • Tell your doctor if your seizures get worse or if you have any side effects.
  • If you take too much Vimpat, call your doctor or poison control center or go to the nearest emergency room right away.
  • Take epilepsy medicines as prescribed by your doctor (usually a neurologist or epileptologist) and do not change or stop your medicine without talking to him or her first.
  • If your healthcare provider has prescribed VIMPAT oral solution, be sure to ask your pharmacist for a medicine dropper or medicine cup to help you measure the correct amount of VIMPAT oral solution. Do not use a household teaspoon. Ask your pharmacist for instructions on how to use the measuring device the right way.
